Before you begin, please review the admissions criteria for the program to which you are applying. Our list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) may also be helpful during the application process. Application Instructions The application submission and postmark deadline for all supporting materials is December 5, 2008. All supporting documents should be sent to the department at the address below. When your online application is complete, be sure to press the SUBMIT button. Applications will not be considered complete until all materials have been received. 1. Online application. First-time applicants and applicants that applied more than two years ago must submit the online application and all supporting materials. Those who have applied within the past two years only need to submit the online application. Only applications submitted online will be accepted. 2. Two copies of all official transcripts of college-level work. Official transcripts must be in sealed envelopes as issued by the school(s) you have attended. Request a current transcript from every post-secondary school that you have attended, including community colleges, summer sessions, and extension programs. 3. Three letters of recommendation are required; however, applicants may submit additional letters. Letters of recommendation sent via post must be written on official letterhead, sealed, and signed across the seal by the recommender. 4. The DCRP supplement [available September 2008]. 5. All applicants must submit a recent Graduate Record Exam (GRE) aptitude test score. The institution code for UC Berkeley is 4833 and the department code is 4402. Only GRE scores within the last five years will be accepted (valid scores are those for test dates on or after October 1, 2003). 6. International applicants from countries in which the official language is not English must provide official evidence of English proficiency. There are two standardized tests you may take: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum score for the TOEFL is 570 (paper-and-pencil test) and 230 (computer-based test). The minimum score for the IELTS is 7 on the 9-point scale. Both scores must be current: tests taken before June 2007 will not be considered. The department’s TOEFL code is 97. 7. All applicants for the Urban Design concentration must submit a portfolio of design work. The department will not return materials, therefore photocopies are acceptable. |
